Safe & Sexy documents women in the public space in two modes; one for comfort, one for attraction. Through portraits, interviews and audio, I explore how social conventions, economic structures, personal history and location shape our visual and psychological landscape as individuals navigate a terrain of vulnerability, power, comfort, and attraction.

Follow Viking Mama as she spends her day in Stockholm at Kulturhuset Arts Center looking at exhibitions, then heads off through Sergels Torg to System Bolaget liquor store, has a “Skol” with a friend at a cafe, then dashes to catch her free bus ride home.

Stroller stroller stroller! Sweden’s collective reverence for children and their strollers is impossible to ignore. Stroller tracks built onto public stairs, strollers 2-3 deep outside buildings, a procession of strollers as preschool or “dagis” lets out. And yes, in Stockholm you get to ride the bus for free with a stroller.

sarah hughes do you have the time

While walking through three areas in San Francisco; Market Street, Union Square, and The Tenderloin, I ask men for the time. I make the loop through these locations dressed as a construction worker, jogger, business person and in spicy attire, and observe the response and interactions based upon my appearance and persona.
