Do You Have the Time?

Stills and video excerpt from the performance series Do You Have the Time?

While walking through three areas in San Francisco; Market Street, Union Square, and The Tenderloin, I ask men for the time. I make the loop through these locations dressed as a construction worker, jogger, business person and in spicy attire, and observe the response and interactions based upon my appearance and persona.

As the construction worker, and jogger, I was invisible. Took more effort to engage and get someone to pause.

As the business person everyone engaged, everyone opened up, chatted. I was respectable, they were respected.

In the spicy attire, lines were drawn. In the tourist area, they kept their distance. In The Tenderloin, a rougher area, I was a ball inside a pinball machine as men helped themselves to putting their hands on my hips, my waist, my backside.
